Utility terrain vehicles, also known as UTVs or side-by-sides, are a very common and popular type of powersports vehicle. While you might expect most people to simply use a UTV for recreational off-roading, the truth is that these vehicles are also excellent for work, including on a farm or ranch. Here are just a couple of the many ways you can use a UTV on your farm.

1. Cultivating Your Soil

When spring rolls around, the soil in your fields is going to need some breaking up and turning over in order for it to be ready for spring planting. Hitch up a harrow to your UTV and drive it across the plots of dirt you need to cultivate and you’ll be ready for planting in no time.

2. Attending Your Livestock

If you’ve got a barn of horses and cows that need daily care, then a UTV can speed up the process of tending to your animals. UTVs are much more compact than pickup trucks, so they’re easier to drive right into your barn. Load up a trailer with hay or manure and drive the UTV elsewhere to deposit these materials. Carry in sacks of feed or containers of supplies quickly and easily.

3. Surveying Your Property

Farms tend to be quite large, which means that your acreage is hard to cover on foot. If you have repairs to make to a distant fence or you want to make your rounds to ensure that nothing on your farm is amiss, it’s easier to have a UTV that you can load up tools and equipment into before you drive it across the property. UTV tires are capable of handling mud, gravel, and dirt roads easily, too.
